Clip vs Magazine

Clip vs Magazine

Clip vs Magazine

There are many “arrogant” gun owners that love to talk down to those that mistakenly refer to a magazine as a clip. Here are my thoughts….

  1. I really despise arrogance. Acting like an ass to someone who uses incorrect gun terminology is no way to win them over. Sure, feel free to explain what the correct terminology is, but don’t be a jerk about it.
  2. Personally, I think we focus too much on terminology. What I call a gun or gun accessory has nothing to do with the Second Amendment, regardless of how scary it may sound. But that being said, there is no doubt that the anti-gun crowd uses incorrect terminology to scare and manipulate those who don’t know a lot about guns. So, I grudgingly say that it may be in our best interest to use correct terminology.

So… in the interest of correct gun terminology:

Clip:

  • A device that is used to store multiple rounds of ammunition together as a unit, ready for insertion into the magazine or cylinder of a firearm.

Magazine:

  • A container that feeds ammunition into a gun’s chamber. Magazines can either be fixed to a gun’s frame, or detachable.
